Google Meet is a brand new application that will replace Hangouts. It was launched in 2017 as a commercial service, an adapted version of Hangouts for businesses.
It is a videoconferencing service that offers more advanced features than Hangouts. Of course you need a Google account and you can have up to 100 participants (compared to 25 for Hangouts). Calls are limited to 60 minutes.
Since 2020, it is offered instead of Hangouts free of charge to the general public.
